Please note: Late word from the White House meeting between the Chinese trade delegation and President Trump indicates that delegation leader Vice-Premier Liu He said that China would make (more) purchases of U.S. soybeans, presumably as part of the large amount of agricultural products China has offered to buy. Other details are lacking. Press headlines quote President Trump as saying that China promised to “buy 5 MMT of U.S. soybeans a day” – an obvious impossibility if more than one day were involved. We assume the headline is some sort of misconstruction of what was said, but the implication seems to be that the next round of trade negotiation purchases is on and that soybeans are involved.
