RFS Reform Turmoil Continues

The White House was to hold a meeting today, chaired by Vice President Pence, to discuss more options on price relief for Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs). The attendee list was changed to involve only administration appointees and staff (no elected officials, including members of Congress) together with representatives of the ethanol and merchant refining industries. However, the meeting was then cancelled. Some refiners do not sell final blended fuel, which includes biofuel and petroleum. They only make gasoline, heating fuel, diesel, and jet fuel, selling it to an entity that then blends in the ethanol or biodiesel. Weighing in on strategic realignment

WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
