Aggressive New EU Leadership; USMCA Labor Solution; Indian Ally

Aggressive New EU Leadership Under John Claude Juncker, the EU seemed confused on how to deal with Donald Trump, never having previously experienced such antagonism from an American leader. There was even a nonsensical trade agreement letter that was supposed to reduce the transatlantic tensions. Not anymore. The verbiage from the incoming government of Ursula von der Leyen is combative, adopting the pugilistic style of Trump himself. While incoming trade commissioner (and outgoing agriculture minister) Phil Hogan says the EU will show Trump the “error” of his “protectionist policies,” the illustration appears to be the adoption of a Europe first, Make Europe Great Again theme. Here are some of the rhetorical shape...

Forecasting developments in production agriculture

On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants. Emphasizing outreach and communication with stakeholders who possess intimate sectoral knowledge – on-the-ground insights – is a regular component of WPI’s methodologies, made possible by WPI’s ever-growing network of industry contacts.
