For the second consecutive week, the average domestic corn price fell RMB 10/MT ($1.50/MT) last week to RMB 1780/MT ($274.20/MT). Since the beginning of April, it has dropped RMB 50/MT ($7.70/MT). The steady decrease has had an impact on the deep corn processing industries. Oilseeds Soymeal Inventories Rise Above 1 MMT Again After a significant decrease to kick off April, last week’s estimated soymeal inventories climbed 90,000 MT to 1.08 MMT (+8.81 percent). This trend was largely expected as the port stocks were approaching 7 MMT the week before last. As will be discussed below, those port stocks were drawn down last week in anticipation of the arrival of new soybean imports. Compared with the same week in 2015, last week’s estimated t...
Illuminating the value of technical research
On behalf of a commodity producer organization, WPI evaluated the outputs from a project that featured a $5 million investment into technical research over multiple years. WPI’s team captured the results of this extensive effort and synthesized them for presentation to the organization’s governing board; among the findings uncovered and presented for the first time was the development of genomic traits proven, via rigorous testing, to provide crop yield advantages of 50 percent or more to U.S. farmers in times of drought. Capturing measurable results from long-term efforts can be challenging. Educating clients on the dynamics of success measurement when quantifiable results are not readily available requires deep client-consultant collaboration and an ability to consider both near- and long-term client aspirations with market/policy dynamics – attributes that WPI brings to every consulting engagement.
