Regional Updates MEDITERRANEAN/MIDDLE EAST/NORTH AFRICA/AFRICA – MEA REGION Sri Lanka will benefit from a program by Thailand and the United Nations to supply quality maize seed to help with increasing food security – the maize will be used in the livestock industry when harvested. 2,900 farmers are expected to be supplied with hybrid maize seed. Pakistan reports current wheat stocks at 5.8 MMT. Wheat stocks had reached a high of 10 MMT during 2022 but releases of 4.23 MMT have brought stocks down. Government agency PASSCO holds 2.2 MMT of the stocks with 2.6 MMT being on hand in the Punjab. Communicating importance of value-added products

Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
