Argentina May Freeze Soy Export Tax Rates Argentine Finance Minister Nicolas Dujovne has proposed freezing export tax rates for soybeans and soymeal/soyoil at the current levels of 27.5 percent and 24.5 percent, respectively. Under current policy, they are supposed to decline by a half-percent per month through the end of 2019. President Mauricio Macri is under pressure to reduce the country’s fiscal deficit to qualify for a standby loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The loan is needed to prop up the value of the peso, which has fallen 16 percent this month to 24.49 against the U.S. dollar.
