European Rapeseed Plantings Down Sharply The head of the French Federation of Oilseed and Protein Crop Producers (FOP) indicated last week that the country’s winter rapeseed plantings will likely decrease 30-35 percent from last year due to the lack of rain this fall. While that suggests a drop of 1.1 million hectares, Terres Univia indicated it could be as much as 1.5 million hectares. Meanwhile, this week the chairman of Germany’s Union for the Promotion of Oil and Protein Plants (UFOP) estimated the area in that country will decline 18.1 percent based on a survey of farmers. WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment.
