Regulatory Agenda for 2024

The Administration has released its regulatory agenda for the rest of 2024. The agenda is a public notice process that details agencies’ work on proposed and upcoming regulations that will be put out for comment. In all, USDA has 109 regulations in the works, some significant and some less so. The biggest portion is from USDA’s Rural Development service, but below are items of interest to commodity markets. RFS and Biofuels Setting the annual required volume obligation (RVO) under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) actually comes from the EPA, which is proposing to issue the proposed 2026 volumes in March 2025 and finalize them in December 2025. Forecasting developments in production agriculture

On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants. Emphasizing outreach and communication with stakeholders who possess intimate sectoral knowledge – on-the-ground insights – is a regular component of WPI’s methodologies, made possible by WPI’s ever-growing network of industry contacts.
